Disaster Recovery Plan

As the world of business becomes more reliant on computers and information & communications technology (ICT), the importance of having a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) in place becomes ever more paramount.

As the world of business becomes more reliant on computers and information & communications technology (ICT), the importance of having a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) in place becomes ever more paramount.

As many sectors are now so heavily reliant on computer systems, disaster recovery plans, also known as a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), are generally associated with the recovery of information technology data, assets, and facilities.

The main objective of any disaster recovery plan is to minimize downtime and data loss.  It is 'a comprehensive statement of consistent actions to be taken before, during and after a disaster.'

If your business doesn't have a disaster recovery plan, all you need to ask yourself is,

'What would happen to my business, if I lost everything?'

In conjunction with a disaster recovery plan is what is called business continuity planning (or business continuity and resiliency planning).  This is the process of creating systems of prevention and recovery to deal with potential threats to a company.

There are many information guides, structured plans and free downloads available on the internet to help you create a Disaster Recovery Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan for your business.
